Why Kids Are Smarter Than Us...

How my 10-year old revived my passion for the arts

My 10-year-old daughter is a published poet.

Recently, she has discovered an interest in poetry as her form of expression, and let’s say this. She sure is flexing her creativity muscle.

The feeling of pride and joy that comes with seeing your child succeed in something they enjoy so much is immeasurable.

However, it’s not just a moment of excitement. It’s also a testament to the power of the arts. Poetry and other forms of expression are such an invaluable part of us, and it’s heartwarming to see a young mind share their perspective.

Trust me, I’m not just rambling about a poem. This can apply to all of us.

In this fast-paced world, it’s easy to forget the importance of creativity and playfulness. As adults, we get so caught up in synthesizing information that we forget to practice curiosity.

Sometimes we all need the reminder that we can’t involve ourselves in self-limiting beliefs, only limitless aspirations.

Her poem was about a kitten flying to the moon– a concept many adults wouldn’t even think of because it defies the logic that runs our lives. But I asked myself, “Why can’t a kitten fly to the moon?”

This innocent question is a great reminder for us all that there is no limit to imagination.

Remember– practicing the arts can jog your creativity, your expression, and your ability to find creative solutions. We need to learn to remain curious like our children. Much of the time, our imagination bridges the gap to a breakthrough.

Whether it’s writing, painting, playing an instrument, or just thinking deeper than the “easy” solution, we all have things that can open up our imagination.

So, let’s take some time to practice our creativity and embrace our inner child.
