The Benefit of Embracing the Unknown
The magic lives where the unknown begins.
Why do we fear the unknown? Seriously, how can we be afraid of something we aren't even aware of? By definition, the unknown isn't known, so what exactly are we scared of? It's fascinating when you think about it; it's essentially fearing something that hasn't even been defined yet.
Let's break it down for a sec.
Unknown
Noun
1: Something that isn't known or well-known
A person who's flying under the radar, a person who is little known to the public.
2: Something that requires discovery, identification, or clarification
A symbol (such as x, y, or z) in a mathematical equation representing an unknown quantity
A specimen (like bacteria or a chemical mixture) that needs to be identified using lab techniques.
Now, I'll be honest, I wasn't always so comfortable with the unknown. I used to avoid it whenever possible. But somewhere along the line, I realized the unknown isn't a black hole sucking me into a dark, scary abyss. It's actually where a lot of magic happens, where a lot of really good things you never anticipated might just happen.
Think about it, when you step into the unknown, you discover something new. Whether it's an experience, a connection, or even a new perspective, so much is out there waiting to be discovered. The unknown is where you find growth, opportunity, and yes, sometimes a little discomfort. But hey, nothing worthwhile comes easy, right?
These days, I'm not afraid of the unknown anymore. In fact, I tend to turn toward the unknown when presented with something unfamiliar.
Why? Because that's where you uncover all the possibilities that surround you, or better yet, the things about yourself that you otherwise would not have known. The unknown is the space where you get to push beyond the familiar, challenge yourself, and let things unfold in ways that might introduce you to experiences that shape your growth in unexpected ways.
So, next time you feel that hesitation creeping in, try to remember that the unknown isn't something to be feared. It's something to embrace. The unknown is where the magic lives- where you uncover the world around you or within.
