The Abundance Paradox
What Do We Actually Own?
I want to talk about something I keep seeing everywhere lately: abundance. These days, it’s tossed around in every corner of the self-help and business world. And don’t get me wrong, I’m all for having a lot of good things in life. Who wouldn’t want to live in a world where abundance is their normal way of life?
But, here’s the thing, if you really take a step back and think about the things around you, what does abundance even mean? Are we talking about stuff we get to keep, or are we just borrowing everything as we pass through?
Take your city, for instance. You might love it, claim it as your city, but is it really yours? Or are you just lucky enough to be experiencing it while you’re here? When we zoom out, the lines blur a bit. If something was never truly ours to begin with, can we ever really lose it? And if it was always yours, can you really lose it?
It’s a bit of a paradox, right? The more we “own,” the more we realize it’s all temporary. So maybe real abundance isn’t about piling up stuff but about appreciating the experience itself. That city we live in, the connections we build, the projects we take on- they’re all just moments we’re passing through. But if we’re fully in it, we get to walk away with something far more valuable than ownership: perspective, presence, and fulfillment.
Here’s what I’m getting at- abundance isn’t about what’s in your bank account or how much square footage you can claim. It’s about being present, recognizing the little moments we’re “borrowing” and, as corny as it sounds, feeling grateful for each of them. This outlook has helped me think differently about my personal life and my business endeavors. You never know what’ll stick around, so you might as well enjoy what you have in the moment.
So here’s to abundant experiences. Keep enjoying life and appreciating what you have. Because at the end of the day, whether it’s a city or a company, it’s all just a chapter we’re lucky enough to be part of.
Until next time,
