Do You Know Who You Are?

Learning About Our Strengths as Dreamers and Doers. When it comes to leadership, there's a delicate balance between being a visionary and being a doer. And both need to co-exist harmoniously in an organization for it to thrive.

Throughout my career, I've always been pinned as a visionary. But reflecting back, I see that I've been just as much of a doer.

And when you're able to have both of those working in conjunction, you become a lethal weapon.

Any organization or relationship needs both vision and execution, and a balance between them is necessary. This could be two people, a team, or (in rare cases) an individual. But, whether it's one person or many, a successful organization knows the value of both.

From my previous career in hospitality, we struck this balance between Tara Owens and me- she was my doer, or "integrator." She created guardrails for my vision, along with systems for our organization to thrive with a developing culture.

Essentially, she supported the fundamentals required to operate day-to-day. I didn't have the experience of structure, but Tara brought that balance we needed to succeed. And I'm so grateful for who she was and what she did. In the background, I was able to absorb so much- even though I didn't really realize it at the time.

Fast forward to CityPlat.

I found myself in a completely different industry with a massive vision from our lead partners. And as we grew, we identified the need for better integration to help us build our business. Now, I found myself living in a different role. I realize that I am pulling from the spirit of my prior learnings and observations to help me analyze, develop, and integrate new systems into our day-to-day.

I'm honestly fascinated by how life can have us flow into new realms and roles. As Steve Jobs once said, "You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backward." And this is one of those moments.

So what I'm saying is that life's a journey, so be an avid and curious learner. You never know when those lessons will become your day job. ;)
